On 12 July 2011, the Holy Father Benedict XVI appointed Archbishop of Luxembourg Rev. Father Jean-Claude HOLLERICH, S.J.

The episcopal ordination of Bishop Jean-Claude HOLLERICH and the taking possession of the Archdiocese took place at the Luxembourg Cathedral Sunday, October 16, 2011.

The biography of our Archbishop

Born August 9, 1958 in Differdange (Luxembourg diocese), he spent his childhood in Vianden, where his family resided.

Studies

secondary education at the Clairefontaine Apostolic School and Lycée Classique de Diekirch (Luxembourg)

1978-1981: Begins his priestly formation at the Gregorian University in Rome, where he attended two years of philosophy and the first year of theology. (Pontificium Collegium Germanicum et Hungaricum)
27.9.1981: Entrance in the Jesuit Company
1981-1983: Novitiate in Wéopin/Namur (Jesuit Province of South Belgium and Luxembourg)
1983-1985: Pastoral internship in Luxembourg
15.9.1985: Departure for Japan
1985-1987: Studies of the language and Japanese culture
1987-1989: Theological Studies at Sophia University Tokyo
1989-1990: Theological Studies at the philosophical-theological Hochschule Sankt Georgen in Frankfurt, Germany
21.4.1990: Priestly ordination in Brussels
1990-1994: M.A. in German language and literature at the Ludwig-Maximilians University Munich in Bavaria

2001 Senior Research Fellow at the Institute for EU Studies in Bonn
18.10.2002: Final Vows in the Church of St. Ignatius in Tokyo. He passes to the Jesuit Province of Japan.

1990-1994: Spiritual Accompanist to the seminarians of the preparatory year at the Major Seminary of Luxembourg and head of the vocational pastoral (in parallel with studies in Munich in Bavaria)
1994-2011: Lecturer for German and European Studies at Sophia University Tokyo, appointed associated Professor in 1999 and Professor in 2006
1996-2006: Chaplain of the German parish in Tokyo since 1997: Member of the Tokyo Archdiocesan Council for missionary and pastoral works
1999-2011: Chaplain students of Sophia University
2002-2006: Provincial Delegate for Pastoral Vocation
2003-2006: Director of the Catholic Center of the Sophia University
2004-2006: Superior of a small community of Jesuits in Tokyo
2006-2008: Superior Scholasticate.
