Theobar: “How can we learn to be missionaries within society?”
A discussion on the missionary initiative by Father Valentine D’Souza
The number of Christians in Asia is growing much faster and steadily than in Europe. Within Western cultures, one could argue that Christians should address the topic of how to evangelize within their communities. What are the reasons behind the development of faith in Asia and how can we in turn become good missionaries?
Father Valentine will share his personal experience as he witnessed many people converting to Christianity since his arrival to Japan a few decades ago. The goal of the conference is to discuss new ways of how the Young can learn to become good missionaries within society.
Father Valentine D’Souza is a member of the Society of Jesus, “theJesuits”, a community founded by St. Ignatius of Loyola. In 1974, he was the first Indian priest to be ordained in Japan. From 1982 to 2004, he was pastor in St Ignatius Church. From 2007 to 2018, he was the Chaplain of Our Lady’s (Mother Mary) hospital in Tokyo. The Father is currently in
Luxembourg and is preparing his return to Japan, happening on the 6th of November.
